  1. Much better! That other pic just wasn't very charming... he looks like a toothless Greek παππους (you know, the ones in their 90's with a cigarette)
  2. Totally offtopic but it looks like he has no teeth in that photo
  3. Hold on Alona... why was your name up on that screen? Please explain
  4. He is indeed! Though I think no musician would make it into Dalaras' band if they weren't And the lip-sync-reading: the last word is the easiest, something like 'bam!', imitating the sound of the snapping string. But the rest... Well I can do it a little in Dutch and English, but in Greek is a whole other game
  5. And remember, mr. Matsikas played that taksim with a broken string
  6. On the second thought, some photos are not half bad. Not great, but anyway... I hope this works? https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.1475199146046977&type=1
  7. I was thinking in the right direction then Thanks!
  8. Εντάξει, as promised, the full report on the Amsterdam Carré show. A nice highlight for me: I finally met Alona! Thank you for our small but nice conversation! As said, the evening was just fantastic. Although it started 15 minutes late… Very Greek, I suppose, but the audience got impatient and started to yell and clap (but in a good way, just eager for the show to start). Of course a lot of Greeks in the audience, but even more Dutch folk music lovers! When the show finally started and Giorgo, Aspasia and Athina came on stage, they (but of course especially Giorgo) were greeted with an applause that lasted almost half a minute! Giorgo seemed truly touched and humbled, and after the first song, Kaixis, he thanked the audience by saying: “This is a great gift, thank you, thank you very much!” Noticeable was the great sound! Crisp, crystal clear and warm (like Giorgo’s voice ) and it suited the show perfectly. Carré had a completely new sound system installed just last week, and it was being used just for the second time. I was able to listen to almost the whole show without needing earplugs (which I usually do need at concerts, due to a painful intolerance to loud, high noises in my left ear). And the lighting was equally great. Very simple but effective, warm, at times exciting and really supporting the show. I believe partly thanks to a friend of mine who is the light technician at Carré I was very impressed by Aspasia Stratigou. Her voice has become more mature and her singing technique is fantastic. The duets of her with Giorgo were just perfect and the colour of their voices forms a brilliant combination. And then of course I must say something about Giorgo. But what to say… It always amazes me how he enters everyones heart and soul when he starts to sing. He was smiling almost the entire time on stage, every now and then joking around with Andreas and Dasho. As always not extremely talkative but that’s ok! I much rather hear him sing He did tell a couple of stories, one (I think, am I right Alona?) prior to Saltadoros, again about Anna Leverkouzen. He also said something about it being a song from the crisis which I am sure had some double meaning because of the way he said it In the beginning of the evening I thought he sounded a tiny bit hoarse, but as the evening progressed fortunately it disappeared. We had the enormous luxury of receiving three encores: Synnergiasmeni Kyriaki, Mi Mou Thimoneis and Tis Aminis Ta Paidia. The theatre almost exploded with all the singing, clapping, whistling and dancing. A true celebration and fitting end to a concert of 2 hours and 15 minutes! Three small points of critique: - We couldn’t see Vasilis Korakakis singing, because Aspasia was sitting right in front of him… - Although Athina was good, I didn’t find her a vocal match to Aspasia and Giorgo. The same goes for Vasilis. Good, but not great. - I liked the very ‘small’ song Athina did just after the break, when she accompanied herself on guitar. I would have liked to see Giorgo do something like that, instead of every song with full orchestra. Unfortunately, I’ve got no great photos (or videos) to share with you. I tried, but after I took a couple of photos someone from Carré approached me and told me it wasn’t allowed. A little weird, because everyone was taking pictures… So I did take some, but they’re not great. So you (and I) have to wait for Alona In the meantime I still can't stop smiling
  9. The show in Amsterdam was absolutely fantastic!!!! I will write a complete report tomorrow evening or on Sunday because I have to work early tomorrow ;-) EDIT: one small thing before I forget mr Matsikas had been playing so vigorously that near the end of the show just before the encores I noticed one of the strings on his bouzouki had snapped. And then he had to play a solo
  10. Kαταπληκτικα τραγουδι! It reminds me of Η ζωη μου μια ιδεα
Σχεδιασμός ήχου-Ηχοληψία: Παντελής Γιατζιτζόγλου, Αντώνης Ζαχόπουλος Σχεδιασμός φωτισμού-Φωτισμοί: Γιάννης Μανιατάκος Αναλυτικά το πρόγραμμα των συναυλιών είναι : 26 Απριλίου Ουψάλα, Σουηδία Konsert & Kongress 27 Απριλίου Ελσίνκι, Φιλανδία Finlandia Hall 29 Απριλίου Μόναχο, Γερμανία Circus Krone 1 Μαΐου Βρυξέλες, Βέλγιο Palais des Beaux Arts 2 Μαΐου Άμστερνταμ, Ολλανδία Carre 4 Μαΐου Μάινζ, Γερμανία Rheingoldhalle 10 Μαΐου Στουτγάρδη, Γερμανία Liederhalle 12 Μαΐου Βερολίνο, Γερμανία Konzerthaus I do hope he realizes we (or at Ieast I am) are actually coming to see and hear HIM? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to hear the other singers, but three just seems a bit much...
  12. Anyone who missed it, or just wants to listen to it again : I've recorded the entire show in three parts. You can send me a private message if you wish to have a copy!
  13. A little reply about the "ταμπουράς". I was reading the translation (thank you Geeske and everyone else who contributed to it), you know, in one of those moments a song just hits you and you NEED to know more Anyway, back to the musical instrument mentioned. It is indeed a lute, extensively used in Bulgaria, some parts of Macedonia/FYROM and the Pirin area. The tambura (BG: Тамбура) is somewhat similar to the bouzouki and saz, but with a more flat body, and according to records it is also much older. It sound is softer and in my opinion warmer and less sharp than that of the bouzouki. It is used a lot as a supporting instrument like a guitar, and in that form is responsible for the rhythm. But it's also played as a solo instrument, and I'll put an example here below I know this is an old topic and all, but just in case some of you have come across the term every now and then and were still wondering EDIT: in light of the translation and the meaning 'lute' of course the oud played in the beginning of the song makes much more sense
  14. I want to share a little funny story with you. Last week I visited the Greek restaurant in the city near my hometown, with my parents. As we've been there many times, we know the owner (Kostas) and his sister (Eleni) quite well. So we were enjoying our food and drinks and Eleni came down to talk to us somewhat. And I told her: 'Did you know Dalaras is coming to Amsterdam again?' 'No! When, where!' she replies. 'Well, 2nd of May, in Carré,' I tell her, 'it's a friday evening.' And immediately she turns around to her brother, who was attending some other tables across the restaurant: 'Eh! Boss! Friday May 2nd, I need the day off!' He looks at her, confused: 'Why?' 'Because I'm going to Amsterdam!' 'Yes, ok, but why?' 'Not telling you!' And then whispers to us: 'I want tickets before he gets the chance'
  15. Alona, don't you mean it just the other way around? The left part, as seen from above, is the part being sold by Carre?
  16. Ha, ευχάριστο πολύ Alona! I was getting a little tired waiting in their phone queue...
  17. I was thinking that too... I mean, we're all crazy enough to pay but not everyone will think of it the way we do....
  18. Hmmm, by phone only... that's a little weird! I'll try calling Amsterdam/Carré then, since there is nothing up on their website yet! It's making me nervous!
  19. Update on the website of Greece On Tour: presale for the shows in Amsterdam and Brussels start on January 23th at 11 AM. I'll be waiting behind my computer that day ;-)
  20. Start at 1.30 minutes Please keep in mind these musicians are not professionals...
  21. Nope, I think so too. Although those high prices are not very common here as you know guess we'll just have to wait and see! Fingers crossed...
  22. The tickets for the Munchen show are now available. But those are some serious prices! €78,50 for first row seats, and €40,40 for the fourth category. Makes me nervous for the Amsterdam show. Hope I've got enough money...
  23. This has been bugging me for ages! I was listening to a couple of Dalaras' older records (and some other artists old songs as well) . And I noticed, as I had before, that somehow they had a great preference for using the concert flute ('dwarsfluit' as we say in Dutch) in their orchestrations. Sometimes clearly instead of using a more traditional flute like the kaval (sorry, the Bulgarian word, I don't know what it's called in Greece). The use of the flute has of course stayed until today. And I was wondering... was that a choice made by producers and/or composers, or, in the case of Dalaras, by the artist whose record it was? Was it in fashion to use more 'western' instruments and has it just lingered? Because me personally, I don't like the concert flute. At least not in Greek music. For instance it completely ruins the studio version of I Fantasia for me. It sounds cheap and ugly with no warmth and... ugh, I just don't like it at all! Any thoughts?
