  1. For those of you in the USA and Canada ,i recieved a phone call today a few minutes ago from Mario Frangulis manager who also happens to be Dalaras' USA manager..He asked me to watch this evening on PBS(public broadcasting system)a concert by Mario Frangulis from Thesaloninki..He also asked me to get the word out to everyone who may want to watch it and call him back in a few days with feedback about the concert..Anyone who wants to watch it and post feedback here ,would be apreciated...I know recently Mario has been on a lot of the national shows here in the USA promoting his new album..He has been getting a lot of media exposure and is starting to get a name here in North America.I understand his album sales are very good..We may have our next international Greek star ? I know he is quite famous in parts of Europe...I will watch a see how the concert goes..Anyone else who observes the show can post feedback here..Thanks
  2. Yes, Nikola is correct ,Dalaras was not part owner. He was instrumental in the design and acoustics of the club, but never an owner..He did have a comitment to play there for a few years but now its over..I am curious as well about why he never plays there anymore..I will have to ask that question next time we speak..I was thinking about that a couple of weeks ago..Looks like Christo had the same question in mind as i did...
  3. Hristaki, so far two dates confirmed for NA Tour.. March 28th New York(Radio city music hall) March 29th Miami Florida No other dates confirmes as of yet...Look for Boston ,Chicago,Atlantic City,Toronto,Montreal,Atlanta,California.....He would go to almost any city as long as someone is willing to promote the show and put up the money to do it....
  4. Chrsto,Hristaki anxiously awaiting the tour, but i predict a small change in the repotuare...Lets see if it happens!!
  5. Well Hristaki, he,he,he You never know?? She was here for a visit to New York and just left.....
  6. Lynn, Christo I think Mario is an amazing talent and his voice is incredible..For those who like this type of music he will be there next Pavorratti, Domingo, Carreras, or Bercelli ...I spoke with his manager(also Dalaras' USA manager) this morning and he told me that Mario is doing a 65 city USA tour and promoting his new CD and concert from Thesaloniki...Just like "Yanni" ,it will be broadcast on the local PBS station with a live appearance in the tv studio by Mario...The Atlanta show was two days ago and i watched it... His manager will send me a complete list of dates so i can post here for all of you who may be interested ..........
  7. I spoke with Dalaras' manager again this morning and he confirmed that Dalaras will first do the North American tour in the spring and then soon after do the concert with the New York Metropolitan orchestra.....
  8. Christ, the concert did appear here in Atlanta and Mario was here in studio in between clips of the show...Let me just say that he has an amazing voice...WOW!!! This guy is world class and has a great future..When he was interviewed in between segments of the show,he was very articulate and spoke English completely with almost no accent. In fact he had a slight british or south African accent.....I wonder if the show was meant for the Atlanta market only and he is doing a tour of most states and appearing live while they show the clips......I will call his manager and get more info and post it here............The concert was beautiful from an outdoor theatre in Thesaloniki called "Theatre of the Earth"...Tha acoustics and show were wonderful..There was a guest appearance from the original member of the "Moody Blues",who sang the original version of nights in white satin.Marion sang it in italian(i believe) and then they both finished in English...Overall this exposure will give a huge boost to his acreer and will likely give him worldwide noteriety like Yanni or Nana Mousxouri........
  9. I was listening to a Dalaras CD this morning on the way to work and he used this one.He says "pame pisso" refering to playing his early songs.....
  10. Nikola, i completely agree with you.The first live album "Ta targoudia mou" is Dalaras' most powerful live recording..It trully captured the raw energy from that show...I have listened to that album so much that i can quote the things the audience is screaming out during the show..The one part where the guy in the audience screams out "tin fantasia" is classic...The combination of songs and instrument sounds on the album will probably never be surpassed...If you listen to the guitar solos that Dalaras plays with his original early Ovation Adamas through his sounds system ,it is amazing sounding.... Here is something else to think about. In those days live recordings were recorded with mikes placed in strategic places on stage and in the theatre.Later they mixed and edited the songs and music at the studio..Todays live recordings are done differently. The recordings are done with digital recording systems hooked directly into the soundboard. They capture the sound direct off the board and not from mikes.Although mikes are used for audence sounds and participation, the sound is taken directly from the board..This gives the recording a more balanced sound..I think live recording tend to sound better but fail to capture that live feel..They usually leave out audience noise between songs..They are more studio recordings than live.Dont get me wrong, they are good but lack the passion of the earlier raw live recordings....Thats my opinion
  11. Here is another that i remember. "Pame" " Apano tou"
  12. Here is something very interesting that i heard from a reliable source,a freind about a few months back..This may suprise some of you..The story goes like this..During the junta(dictatorship)there was an album released of Georgo Dalaras. The title was either "Xartines Polities" or " Xartini Politia" or something very close to this..The album was released but soon after, within 12 hours was rounded up from any stores and banned..It was censored from anyone buying it..There was talk about the album but not enough people had the chance to buy it so it was brushed under the rug ,never to be heard from ever again..After the junta fall, the journalist Papastephanou in his radio program released a song or two from the album. The lyrics were by Lefteris Papadopoulos and the music was i believe either Kaldaras or Kougioumtzis?? Anyway, the lyrics of the two songs released were metaphorical and about Karagiozis and Xadzitzakis(theatro skion)and therelives and troubles.Basically it was talking about the avarage Greek person, his life and torubles... There are not many people that know any facts about this "unknown album"...Minos never claimed it existed or would say much about it..Probably only a few people know anything about it,unless you were living in Athens at the time and maybe saw it on the store shelves for the short time it was available.... Does anyone here know anything about it or have ever seen this "unknown album"....or ever heard a song from this album?
  13. Nikola, im not sure if it was a 45 only.My source tells me that it was a complete album...I will find out before the year is up..I will speak with Georgo later this year before the year is up.He will be here in the US before the end of the year and i plan to ask him as i am curious about this album..Also,i know that Minos Matsas the son of the owner of Minos EMI lives here in New York.He is a close freind of my koumbaros so i will ask him as well.He is young but should know or be able to find out info on the mistirious album..So, between Dalaras and Minos i will find out something.....BTW,Minos has written many good songs that Dalaras a few other musicians have recorded. He is very talented and studying music....
  14. Hristaki, actually Arvanitaki did not get top billing. The concert program and promotional fliers read "Concert of Hope presents in alphabetical order".Then it listed the artist alphabitically..This is why her name apeared first on the marqui. The actual program read George Dalaras to headline concert of hope..Of cource Dalaras was the headline act as he came on last as usually headline acts do...There is no way any of the artist including Arvantaki would get top billing over Dalaras. That would never happen..She is good but Dalaras is a legend who has earned his spot as the headline act..... Dalaras got top billing without any question.. Also, all the artist were in abad mood due to bad promotion and equipment not working properly.By the time Dalaras was to come on stage people were tired and ready to go home.He came on stage ata round 11:30pm,maybe even later than that...By then everyone had lost intrest and were tired, including Dalaras...Like a professional though he performed...I blame promoters for the terrible organization...
