Αγάπη

I must have heard this song thousands of times. Tens of thousands. I had it by heart before I knew any Greek.

I should know it by now.

And suddenly it jumps out and takes me by throat and chokes me.

Today, I'll listen to "Εγώ μάγκας φαινόμουνα", an old rebetiko song by Genitsaris, and I'll dedicate it to one of us who will understand. Genitsaris was 16 years old when he recorded the song. In this song, he says that instead of going to school, he used to go to Karaiskaki (mes stou Karaiskaki) and learn how to play the bouzouki.

Dalaras has sung some of his songs.

Yes.......reminds me to my last night at Zygos!

After the official end Dalaras started 'extra' time! Took the bouzouki and played a long intro which started the song ' Νύχτωσε χωρίς φεγγάρι' and another one with the bouzouki 'Σαλταδόρος ' and another one, which I didn't know! Amazing and a perfect end to my 'Dalaras' week.

If someone is interested in the German lyrics of Σαλταδόρος, Franz   :)

Omorfi kai paraxeni patrida

for putting me to sleep last night when I was so tired and hurt

for being the wound and the balm at the same time

Little middle of the night miracles.

Just a second before I switch off, the radio gives me a song of his that I can never get enough of: Ανατολι. First miracle.

So I stay. So I hear another, a song I don't know. That's two.

So I try and look it up. I still don't trust my ability to spell Greek, with very good reason, and the site's search engine is unforgiving. But it finds me the song at the second try. Which makes three.

With thanks to mr Spiros Fokas, my song for today:

Σ' αγαπώ

Σ' αγαπώ σ' αγαπώ στο θαμπό μου το νου

Σ' αγαπώ σ' αγαπώ στο θαμπό μου το νου

From the album of Stavros Kougioumtzis, called 'Έβρεχε ο κόσμος', the song 'Πώς να σου πω'.

Πώς να σου πω

Nikola, eleos, how to get this Stavros Kougioumtzis album? I admire every song he wrote ever, and not only the two everybody of us knows!

NIki, for a good night especially for you: Mou edose o Plastis tin kardia ("1969", S. K. again, you see) and the wonderful S'agapo (L. Kilaidonis, from the same album). Till it helps.

:)

Today I couldn't get out of bed so my mom did the best thing for me. She put on a Dalaras CD.

''mad about you''!!! :)  :D  :music:

The best way to wake up and start a long and difficult day!

A long and difficult day indeed

... in honour of the parliamentary elections in my country today, I have deafened my neighbours with

Και συ επιμένεις να μου λες για προκοπή

και χίλια δυο παράλογα

για εξελίξεις στη βουλή

και πράσινα άλογα

(And you, you keep telling me about progress

and a thousand and two absurdities

for developments in Parliament

and green horses)

before crossing the street to cast my vote.

For the good it'll do :)

Today

John Barleycorn !!!

a great song about death, resurrection and beer... and one more proof that this man can sing ANYthing - even a rock version of an English traditional :)

I've played it ten times in a row and I still don't believe my ears.

Death, resurrection and beer.... Ge(e)ske, please!! I must laugh and I am so weakened after a long day now that I can't do it well.... . Athought I can't like this song so much, just because it's so different from this what I like most. Instead of it: "na onirevomai" , from the same "Mousiko kouti", I think.

These thalassina kimata are what I need most now.

As everybody of us can see, this part is becoming "This day's favourite song".

So, I woke up after a bit heavy night  - this changing  weather is rather unbearable) and have today a lot to do, so I ask "Dichos tin kardoula sou" for help.

Micki, dear girl, let's try to dance it together....

For me:Τι να θυμηθω, τι να ξεχασω,

because this is one of these songs, which have the power I miss in the last days.

:D
