ΑΝΕΜΟΣΚΑΛΑ ΘΑ ΔΕΣΩ || I will tie a ladder

Μουσική: Στέλιος Βαμβακάρης || Music: Stelios Vamvakaris

Στίχοι: Δημήτρης Γκούτης || Lyrics: Dimitris Goutis

Ανεμόσκαλα θα δέσω || I will tie the wind into a ladder

ανεμόσκαλα θα δέσω || I will tie up a rope ladder

ανεμόσκαλα θα δέσω || I will tie a ladder through the air

και θ' ανέβω να σε κλέψω || and I will climb up to steal you away

και θ' ανέβω να σε κλέψω || and I will climb up to steal you away

Θα σε κλέψω απ' το μπαλκόνι || I will steal you from your balcony

μια βραδιά που θα 'σαι μόνη || one night when you are alone

μια βραδιά που θα 'σαι μόνη || one night when you are alone

θα σε κλέψω απ' το μπαλκόνι || I will steal you from your balcony

μια βραδιά που θα 'σαι μόνη || one night when you are alone

Σ' αγαπώ και δε με νοιάζει || I love you and nothing matters

σ' αγαπώ και δε με νοιάζει || I love you and nothing matters

σ' αγαπώ και δε με νοιάζει || I love you and nothing matters

το φιλί σου κι αν με σφάζει || even if your kiss cuts my throat

το φιλί σου κι αν με σφάζει || even if your kiss cuts my throat

Aerial ladder...

Rope ladder is not, even the exact word...

Anyway the song (and its translation) are nice...

I wish you'd used those lyrics in Παιχνίδι με λόγια

εεεεεεεεελεος

this forum lOOks deserted but... they are watching every post!

less than 1 hour and 2 people have spotted my laziness

so

let me admit it

i did NOT look up ανεμόσκαλα

not at all

I just made up the nicest & most poetic translation I could think of and put it in.......... and now that you put me right I don't want to correct it, because a rope ladder is much less romantic than a ladder knotted out of thin air...

as an apology for this sin of inaccuracy, let me tell you that I'm doping my ears with rembetika as an antidote to the piece of legal-pharmaceutical high-tech that I am engaged in translating - very interesting (a so a rare pleasure) but also very demanding...

so I overbalanced a bit on that ladder.

p.s. Pano I would have put it in the game but it's your turn and you've got me STUMPED so....

You're talking again about two people...although both replies were send by me

My turn in the game...I told you it was scientifically chosen. I tried to make it a "little" bit difficult for you :):):(

Don't worry about your lazyness...we are alwas here to "encourage" you :)

But the translation is good :D

I've told you before Pano, there are people who send their contribution by PM instead of posting it. I'm sometimes indiscreet and thank them in public :)

And YESSS it's much better fun to make translations that someone actually reads

thanks for the """"""""fan-mail""""""""""

Who said that we are "reading" the translations? :naughty:

We are just correcting its mistakes and that's the real fun

I was the person to send the second comment

As it was in French I thought it would be more likely to annoy rather than interest our members ...and I was too lazy to write in English !

And Geeske, there is no indiscretion in thanking us in public for such rare hasty comments (that you generously call "contribution"), if you feel like it !

They certainly don't deserve it.

Correcting mistakes might be what you are doing Pano B)

As for myself, I'm trying to learn........hoping against hope....

Well, siriously speaking, we all learn.

Personally I didn't know the word anemoskala in English, but the translation made me look up and "offer" some advice...

So, proudly, I'm the first one who learned from all this story

But I thought to share this new stuff with my mates here...and I did so in a "teasing" way B)

I have a reputation that I don't want to lose: Naughty-Panayoti :naughty:

pana-niaughty

you do have a point Pano,

for pretty nearly all of us (including me!) these translations mean studying TWO languages: Greek AND English.
