Dalaras' news in English

483 posts in this topic

I made a mistake. the concerts are a week BEFORE Easter and Passover. Yet, aside from changing dates, the time is so short between now and the alleged concerts. I have a few possibilities, but I would have to travel, get a hotel room and a ticket. I don't want to do that unless I know there really will be a concert there at the time mentioned. :pity:

Someone in the US has called Encore and was told tickets are not yet available. This doesn't give people much time to make plans.

Has anyone been able to get tickets yet? If so, from whom?

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. Wish I lived closer to Canada, but I'm in Arizona. Guess I'll have to miss this tour. :pity: I have never seen Dalaras perform in person. I was so excited when I read about this tour. I'll keep trying to get in touch with Dimitri. He has been my contact before with Mario Frangoulis concerts. (He really wasn't of much help there either.)

In recent interviews and comments I've see several hints that Dalaras is planning to retire soon. Such as interview in ELLE and the following

Το νέο Δίφωνο φιλοξενεί άρθρο του Γιώργου Μητράκη σχετικά με τη μεταγραφή στη Universal με τίτλο

"Που πάει ο Νταλάρας όταν φεύγει..."

Does it mean he will retire really soon? Did he join Universal so he can stop performing ?

Well, there are probably as many opinions on this as there are members in this forum, so I'll just try and give a few facts.

1. Dalaras is in his late fifties, and, as he said to Moraitis in the Elle interview "You don't expect me to go on giving concerts till I'm eighty, do you?"

2. For at least five years now, he has regularly been saying things like "einai polla ta xronia", litterally "the years are many". Before his 2002 programme in Zygos was titled "Apo kardias", it had the working title "Ola afta ta xronia" (= all those years).

3. When you look at the list of projects (records etc) he has said, or is saying, that he wants to do, then you feel another 3 lifetimes might not be enough - on the other hand, being Dalaras, he might manage it in another ten years or so.

4. We won't find out what he means to do at Universal till he does it, I don't think he's going to be explicit in advance. However, if he _only_ meant to retire, he would have stayed with Minos, looked after the "legacy", and that's it.

5. He has never, at any point, as far as I know, spoken of a specific point in time at which he is going to stop.

He has been quite revealing on this subject, lately, in the Melodia interview - in the last part, which I never finished translating. There he shows very clearly the tension between knowing (intellectually) that the years _are_ passing and that he can't go on forever, plus the fact that he does get tired (of singing as a profession, not of singing in itself), versus all the songs that he's got inside him that are clamouring to get out.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that (having learned the interview almost by heart while doing the transcript) I got heartily bored with typing out the translation, and since no one seemed all that much interested in it... (You were better off when my Greek was less good, when I needed to make the translation for myself and you automatically got to read it too).

If you want a better-informed answer, you'll have to ask the question in Greek. And not in this topic, since those who read Greek read topics that are in English as rarely as the other way around. I hate this segregation, but I haven't yet come up with a single γκοτζαμ thing that might be effective against it :)

p.s. Marina, the title of the article is a reference to Dalaras' leaving Minos, not to his leaving anything else.

Dear Geske:

It is not possible to thank you enough for the huge job you've done with the Melodia interview.

However, I was away and missed the MP3 files. Is it too much trouble to ask you to upload them again some time at your convenience?

Σ'ευχαριστουμαι πολυ, spasibo, dank u

I know this is going to sound a bit weird, but I actually get a lot more motivation from people badgering me (politely) for (the next bit of ) a translation, than from thanks afterwards..... I don't know if this makes sense. It's a bit like getting more self-confidence about speaking Greek from people correcting my mistakes, than from their compliments...

Anyway.

I am so shocked that these last minute cancellations have been made. I know someone who was going and I was thinking of joining them. I'm glad now I did not get airline tickets for the Foxwood concert.

Are these all the shows or will Dalaras be going west of Chicago at all?

Dalaras did not like my comments about him possibly gambling in the casino...

:)

Seriously, Wang Theater is much better choice.

:) Sure, I'll write a check right now. Nothing like an exclusive concert in Prescott Arizona.

I am tempted to go to the N.Y. concert. My only concern is that I'll buy airline tickets (not $100,000, but not cheap) and the concert will be cancelled.

Oh well, I can always take a tour of my home town. :)

I went on the web site listed under the Manhattan theater and only got a picture of the Manhattan theater. Is there a special phone number or email address I must have? Is it Globe Ent. in Astoria?

Thanks for the info.

Thanks folks,

As far as N.Y. is concerned, I am a native Brooklynite who spent so much time in Manhattan at all the shows, operas, etc. Wish I could afford to live there now, but only if I could live in Manhattan and take advantage of all that N.Y. has to offer.

But, I'll settle for a Dalaras concert for now. :D

Wish me luck on getting tickets - both airline and show. :D

Dear Christo,

I know nothing about Chicago. Could you suggest a hotel close to the concert? Is it in Chicago proper or a suburb? Is it difficult getting from the airport to the concert area? Any other information you think I need.

Right now I'm just in the planning stages. I hoped to go to N.Y., but the concert day may be a problem for me with work.

Anxiously waiting to hear from you.

BTW, I'll be out of town as of this Wednesday, so if you could give me some details today or tomorrow, I'd really appreciate it. Sorry if I sound impatient about this. Its just that I want to see Dalaras in concert, but when & where is a bit of a problem right now.

Thanks

Louise

Well Hi Folks

Oh boy 2-3 days I've been away and I already see I'm the guest topic in town

Hi Louise

Yes I guess now that you know I'll be in Chicago

I'll look into seeing where a good hotel is as the moment I don't have a clue.

You see I'm staying with a buddy of mine at his place and we're gonna be hanging out in town for the weekend together

What I can tell you now is

that The Rosemont Theatre

is pretty close by the O'hara International airport

on North River Rd approxiametely within 15 minutes driving time I think from the Airport to the theartre; but I could be wrong as I'm guessing and this is what I saw on Yahoo Mapquest.

So there should be some reasonable hotels nearby there.

I just don't know whats available or as too how much the cost is

let me do some research and I'll get back to you

ok

if you make it let me know

we can meet up before the show for a drink or something

I don't arrive in chicago until roughly 5:00 pm Central time

talk to you soon

Thanks Christo,

I'm looking into it myself too. There is a hotel near Ohare, but I'm also trying to find out the distance between Ohare, the hotel and the concert hall.

I appreciate your help. I'll let you know what I come up with. I sure wish Dalaras was touring a little further west!

I can't believe that I'm going to see George Dalaras in Boston in April 10th. I'm actually excited, and that is a rarity for me. There's just one thing that concerns me....

Who is this person with whom Dalaras has decided to tour North America? Mihalis Hatzigiannis? He looks very young. And very pop-oriented. I hope that I'll get to here some classic Dalaras songs (I hope I get to hear all the classic Dalaras songs, but I suppose that's too optimistic).

Anyway, I'm just curious whether anyone knows anything about this other fellow.
