Finding Greek music in Sweden

9 posts in this topic

Hello friends! I am a fan living in Sweden, and as such I am having great difficuties getting my hands on recordings of Greek music (to reasonable prices). Is there some way to buy records on- line or so? Perhaps a link from this site to somewhere where you can buy Dalaras' records? Answers in Greek are okay, but I'm having some serious problems with my Greek fonts, so please write in English letters.

The problem with trehantiri.com is that they are quite expensive and quite slow in delivery.

I can suggest the following greek shops (with all of which I made only good experiences) - in alphabetical order:

http://www.athens-netradio.com/  (Athens)

http://www.cdstore.gr (Thessaloniki) (on this site you need no greek fonts to read or to choose titles)

http://www.greekbooks.gr/cd/  (Athens) (Yes, despite of the name they have also a very good collection of CDs)

http://www.musical.gr/   (Patras) (a good shop, but you should send your credit card details by letter or fax as they have no secure site!)

http://www.musicstore.gr   (Athens)  (only a rather small but interesting collection)

http://www.shops.gr/saxon/  (Thessaloniki)

In case that you prefer an order from overseas:

http://www.greekcity.com/   (Toronto, Canada)

http://www.greekmusicusa.com/   (New York, USA)

Concerning Dalaras: Well I can assure you that you get CDs with him in every of these shops :).

Well, thank you.I have been to,most of the shops before and to my horror found that the store in the US was the cheapest one. I mean, 'Hey, let's send the records twice across the Atlantic so they'll get cheap!' doesn't sound like a really good idea to me, but the greek shops were rather expensive, especially the 'older' records. I mean, in Greece they cost, say 4000 GRD but on the net 8500. I simply can not buy things at those kind of overprices. Also, since my Greek relatives live in Larissa, which really doesn't have any good record stores at all (quite amazing for a city so big), I can not get records there either. But the shop in Patras looked nice (at least without greek fonts :) ) so I shall make an effort to fix the fonts and then visit again.

Once again, thank you.

There is an address in Amsterdam which you might try. I have absolilalutely no idea how the prices will compare, but I can guarantee that the staff are awfully nice and more than helpful. It is in fact almost a one-woman operation, she does if for love more than for money and she seems to know everything.  Service very professional though.

The place is called Het Griekse Eiland (meaning 'the Greek Island). It is not an internet shop, but if you email them, they'll tell you soon enough if they have what you want, and what it costs.

They have asite at: http:www.griekse-eiland.nl  but it is not all that interesting, so you might as well send them an email directly. The address is info@griekse-eiland.nl and they can handle Greek and English as well as Dutch, and most likely German as well.

And no, I have no connexion with them except that I spend my savings there once or twice a year :-)

Michael, I have tried to mail the Patras shop and ask some things (like handling/shipping fees), but I don't get any responds. Do they speak english there (which I suppose since they have a part English homepage), or are they just slow?

Andreas, my experience is that musical.gr responds quite quickly. (Maybe because of summer and vacations they are now a little bit slower?) I made the correspondence always in Greek but I assume that someone will speak there English too. If you would like that I make some inquiries for you, you can tell me your questions and I can try to send them to the shop in the greek language.

Thank you very much, but I can ,if necessary, write them myself (as soon as I have got some Greek keybord things). I will try once more in English though.

I can't hide that the owner of Musical is a very close friend and we had a great relation for 5 years in Patras. Two days before I leave Patras for ever, we were drinking ouzo together. Did you think that maybe he didn't receive your email?

Musical is a real record shop, not only a virtual. If you get in his shop, on your right hand and on the wall, you will see an enormous picture (picture not poster) of Dalaras! When I say enormous, I mean that the picture is taller than Dalaras himself!

I sent the mail to info@musical.gr, which should be the proper address according to the home page. Anyway, I wrote another mail today so we will have to wait and see.
