Arabic music in the Internet

9 posts in this topic

Here a phantastic link for everyone who is interested in genuine Arabic music:

http://www.medi1.com/musique/classique.php

"Medi 1" is a radio station in Morocco and they offer an enormous amount of songs by a lot of Arabian singers (as far as I have seen until now, all songs in full length): Abdelhalim Hafez, Fairouz, Farid el Atrache, Oum Kelthoum, Warda etc.etc.

You can listen to the songs simply by clicking on the name of the artist and the song title.

I must congratulate myself to have found this link. :D

"Medi 1" είναι ένας ραδιοφωνικός σταθμός στο Μαρόκο. Δεν έχετε παρά να κάνετε κλικ στο όνομα του καλλιτέχνη και στο τραγούδι της επιλογής σας για να το ακούσετε (και μάλιστα σε όλη του την έκταση απ ό,τι είδα μέχρι τώρα).

:D:D:naughty:

Thanks for all your friendly words.

However, I did not know that the Moroccans speak Arabic.

Of course, they do. ;) (Arabic and French.)

From which country would those singers you listed be?

I will try to answer, but I would beg Panos or Fadi (or other experts) to correct me if I made a mistake:

Abdel Halim Hafez, Farid El Atrache and Oum Koulthoum (Kelthoum / Kalthoum) are from Egypt. (All of them have already died.)

Warda was born in France but she is from an Algerian family.

There is also a famous singer called Fairouz (her name is even mentioned in at least two Greek songs). She is from Lebanon.

etc. etc.

If someone is starting to listen to arabic music, perhaps these are examples for songs that can be of interest:

- "Bahlam bik" with Abdel Halim Hafez (it sounds quite "arabic" but nevertheless perhaps it is not too "hard" for "usual western ears" ;) ):

(click on the first of the three titles there)

- "Aljani ba'edi youmine", a song with Samira Saed (I think she is from Morocco, but I am not completely sure):

(click on the first of the two titles there)

I found this song only a few days ago but since then I heard it quite often. It has a wonderful melody and orchestration and it sounds relatively "western".

And here an example for something more "hard":

"Yamma l'qamar 'al bab". The singer is Faiza Ahmed (unknown to me until now). It is a live recording, and this is more ore less a guarantee to hear something exciting:

;):music:

PS: Just now I realized that I posted this topic in the wrong place of the Forum. I looked only at the word "Links" and ignored that they are part of the unit "Greek music". Sorry.:blush: The correct place for my topic would be "Dalaras Internet Community".

Σ ευχαριστώ, Πάνο, για την επιβεβαίωση.

Perhaps you also know where Faiza Ahmed comes from (and if she is a well-known singer)?
