Tou Erota

hello again everyone

Gazakas, any chance you can help me out with the

  translation to this song.

Its a pretty Rock/ballad song composed  by brothers   Panos & Haris Katshimihas and written by poet Lenas Pappa.

Lucky enough for us Dalaras finally had the chance to sing it live on a cd in the first IERA ODOS cd.

I have the studio recording of this song Tou Erota

and the cd cover title reads "Haris & Panos Katsimihas  'Ths Ayapis Maxerias.'

Meaning the Love of the Knives???

    Help needs translation badly!!!

BTW, ever notice how so many Greek songs ahve the words To Maheri stin Kardia?

Or To Maheri Gyrnai sti Kardia?

or how about Pios Eina afto pou mou'dose Maheri stin Kardia??

and don't forget Nikos Kavvadias and Thanos Mikroutsikos song of To Maxeri?

Whats the big deal with all these knife songs?

Surely, They can't be thinking of slaying and killing people like Homers Odysseus and plays by Shakespeare can they?

If this is an expression or idiom, bizarre is hardly the word I would use for to describe the semantics.

Though I don't know the song, I hazard the opinion that της αγάπης μαχαιριας might mean "the knife-wounds of love".

And don't I know, how love can slice your heart up like a very, very sharp knife - you don't feel it going in, but suddenly, the wound is there and it's too late.

I don't wonder that the Greek poets use this image often.

OK, Christo, this is for you!

The site had a Dutch translation, which I used as a crib for this. Anyone who can contribute a correction, PLEASE do so...

ΤΟΥ ΕΡΩΤΑ - OF LOVE

Music: Xaris et Panos Katismichas

Lyrics: Lena Papas

Come, dark fire of love, shivering blood of love

In your spell I forgot time's assassins

I made rosy babies in the future with the stars

come, dark fire of love

Come, knife-stab of love  into the body of youth

wound that calls up perfumes of friends and music

dressing up the naked lonely universe

come, knife-stab of love

come, knife-stab of love, come, knife-stab of love

come, knife-stab of love, come, knife-stab of love.

A sombre song indeed.

Interesting indeed to say the least.

What a strange choice of metaphors to talk about the
  dark side of love.
Sort of like the Star Wars saga.

   "come knife-stab of love"

An unusual choice of syntax to display its semantics.    but whoever said poetry is meaningful and is never in the abstract

Although it does sound somewhat better when sung in greek.
Again one of those songs you just can't sing well in english.

Not brave at all - I simply had NO idea what I was getting into.

Well, it's been a long time and I have learned a little more Greek since then (if not much else). So here is another attempt. Made without re-reading the old one. And posted gainst my better judgement.

But what use is judgement?
