adds the names of the rest of the musicians, including Farantouri's pianist (Schmidt?)

Jannis Zotos, guitar and "leader" of the gang

and the speaker in Berlin was Kostas Papanastasiou

Το άρθρο στο όποιο αναφέρεται η Anna μου φάνηκε να έχει κάποιο ενδιαφέρον, εφόσον είναι αρκετά αντιπροσωπευτικό της γνώμης για τον Θεοδωράκη στους κύκλους της «κλασσικής» μουσικής: βασικά, τον βρίσκουν πολύ λαϊκός και πολύ δημοφιλής - μουσική για τους πάντες δηλαδή αντί για τους λίγους. Την εποχή του Mozart δεν θα σήκωνε κουβέντα, αλλά τώρα πια που οι μουσική που λέγεται «κλασσική» έχει χάσει την πρώτη θέσει στην δημιουργικότητα... μάλλον ζηλεύει;

Konzertkritik: Mitsingen in der Philharmonie

Sonntag, 28. Juni 2009

Geeske thank you for translating!

heres another one, not from a newspaper, its a private describtion which I found in this forum http://www.kretaforum.eu/showthread.php?p=150225

Berlin 26.06.2009

I told already, it was a great night.

Great for several reasons

The venue, the Philharmonie, looks a bit strange, unusual from outside and inside. The groundfloor build as pentagon, the orchestra podium in the middle. Above and around, the seatings for the audience, adapted to the structure. The architect, Hans Scharoun, had the intention to build a hall, where every visitor of a concert has a perfect seat, perfect acoustics and perfect view from every corner of the hall. He was successful! Also the outside reflects the internal structure and the roof reminds of a circus tent. And especially at night the whole building with the aluminium cover looks like a golden jewel.

Hommage to Jannis Ritsos. (well, they added some other things )

In Berlin we had the chance to buy a 31-page booklet with a lot of information about this great poet. From Kostas Papanastasiou we got an introduction to Ritsos life and working. He read the lyrics of some songs before the musical interpretation. So, first time in my life I almost got a simultan translation. My Greek is limited, so I prepared myself already before, with the help of the German song translations in Mikis Theodorakis Liederbuch to get the meaning of the lyrics. But its a great difference when someone offers you just before the singing- the words in German. A big thank you for this help!!

The music. From the Jannis Zotos website I knew which instruments would take part. I was very curious and had my doubts, if its possible to play Theodorakis with such a small ensemble. I know and like Theodorakis best, when its done with a large orchestra and a chorus. The Jannnis Zotos ensemble in combination with the 3 Giorgos (Kontojannis, Matsikas, Papachristoudis) did a very good job. I was a different way of presentation Theodorakis music , a bit unusual, but the transformation to their instruments was successful. Especially the slow songs and especially the first part of the concert were wonderful. With the powerful songs sometimes Ι needed a little more δύναμη.

Maria Farantouri. It was the first time I saw her live on stage. I know her for years, as my first meeting with Greek music was Theodorakis and Theodorakis without Maria Farantouri wasnt possible that years. With her moves and gestures during the performance she looked like the female Theodorakis. Her voice (to my surprise) is still the same way. I was very satisfied.

Giorgos Dalaras. The first seconds he was a bit strained, but hes always like this, when hes doing a new presentation. The guy in the Berliner Morgenpost wrote that Dalaras had some problems with the technical equipment. No, this is not true. But it may seem to someone who isnt used to it, when Dalaras is regulating his tuner under the jacket. The acoustics were perfect. And his singing: outstanding!

The best? The surprise of the evening: Giorgos Dalaras singing: Δεν κλαίω για αυτά που μου 'χεις πάρει

Thank you very much for this extra!!!

Amsterdam 28.06.2009

Berlin was great, but for me Amsterdam was even better!

Maybe because the weather was better, a warm summer night

maybe because of the glass of wine I had before

maybe because I was more relaxed (me in Berlin, I also had at a kind of premiere fever)

maybe because I didnt have the stress anymore to get a good photo with Maria and Giorgos

maybe because my seat was more close to stage, although the same row as in Berlin, but the seating in Carre was more close to stage

or maybe just because I knew before I will get a good concert

and I got.

and I give a big thank you to all who made this night so great

to Asteris Koutoulas for his idea to do something for Ritsos

to Jannis Zotos and his ensemble for their creation of this performance

to the 4 Giorgoses from Greece and Maria Farantouri for let it come true

and not to forget to all the helping hands for sound, light, building up and taking down the stage, etc.

and of course this thank you goes for all three concerts.

Now some photos from Amsterdam:

my first impression: the Koninklijk Theater Carre, view from the other side of the Amstel.

and heres the result of my excitement, taking these three photos I forgot to put on the flash. And as always when you take a photo of a couple, always one of them is moving too much.
