Ανατολικό παράθυρο

10 posts in this topic

Looking for something else, I found this tape today, with nothing at all written on it, except two words in pencil, in my own hand: ΑΝΑΤΟΛΙΚΟ ΠΑΡΑΘΥΡΟ. I am quite sure I must have acquired it in 1991 or '92 - don't think I've played it much since then.

So I put it on (cautiously, it's decomposing) and I found some really nice, slightly mystic sounding songs; one of them I recognized, it's on the radio quite regularly (in a different voice though): the chorus starts with κοοοοκκινα χείλι...

Surely someone will be able to tell me what it is I have found? Please?

It doesn't ring any bell to me Geeske...which singer are we talking about?

However, there is a song Κόκκινα χείλη, from Λουδοβίκος των Ανωγείων.

The new version the radio, I asked someone and then forgot the answer... the only name that comes up in my mind is Ioannidis, but my memory is very unreliable. I'm sorry to be so vague!!! It's one of those annoying mysteries!

Geeske, is it this one?

Κόκκινα χείλη εφίλησα           // I kissed red lips

κι έβαψε το δικό μου            // and that painted mine

και στο μαντίλι το 'συρα        //   I brushed it with the kerchief

κι έβαψε το μαντίλι              //   and that painted the kerchief

και στο ποτάμι το 'πλυνα       //   and I washed it in the river

κι έβαψε το ποτάμι              //   and that painted the river

κι έβαψε η άκρη του γιαλού  //   and that painted the edge of the coast

κι η μέση του πελάγου         //   and the middle of the ocean

κατέβη αϊτός να πιει νερό     //   an eagle came down to drink water

κι έβαψαν τα φτερά του      //   and that painted his wings

κι έβαψε ο ήλιος ο μισός     //   and that painted half of the sun

τ' ολόγιομο φεγγάρι          //   and the full moon

κόκκινα χείλη εφίλησα       //   I kissed red lips

κι έβαψε το δικό μου         //   and that painted mine

If it is this one, I have it with Loudovikos. Maybe there is a newer version with Alkinoos though.

Yes! That's it!

Nikola, you did it again - right conclusion from insufficient data... ;)

Now to identify the older version I have... and the record...

The album it comes from is called 'Ο έρωτας στην Κρήτη είναι μελαγχολικός'

Sounds great - but do you think that's what's on the mysterious tape I found? Knowing me, I was pretty sure that Ανατολικό παράθυρο  is the title of the album I recorded on it...

And Λουδοβίκος is the one who wrote this song, right? His version is the original one?

Geeske! I found it. There is an album 'Ανατολικό παράθυρο' with 'Δυνάμεις του Αιγαίου' and that song is there, with a different music than mine. The lyrics seem to be traditional. For the music, I can't be sure, because they are different. But yours is probably traditional.

;) You really are a bottomless goldmine, you :D

To my uneducated ear, the music sounds like it could well be traditional. I like it very much, can't think how I came to forget it all those years... and now the tape is rotten...

Nikola, please tell me all the details you can about that album? So maybe I can find it again somewhere someday?

Geeske, the lyrics are definately traditional. I happen to have both versions, well, mine is definately (the music I mean) not traditional, but the other one that you have, could be. However, I am not sure.

As for the group, 'Δυνάμεις του Αιγαίου', their very first album is great, I can personally take the risk if anyone wishes to buy it! (it means that I will pay you if you don't like it  ;) )

edit: their first album is called just like this: Δυνάμεις του Αιγαίου
