20 posts in this topic

For those of you in the USA and Canada ,i recieved a phone call today a few minutes ago from Mario Frangulis manager who also happens to be Dalaras' USA manager..He asked me to watch this evening on PBS(public broadcasting system)a concert by Mario Frangulis from Thesaloninki..He also asked me to get the word out to everyone who may want to watch it and call him back in a few days with feedback about the concert..Anyone who wants to watch it and post feedback here ,would be apreciated...I know recently Mario has been on a lot of the national shows here in the USA promoting his new album..He has been getting a lot of media exposure and is starting to get a name here in North America.I understand his album sales are very good..We may have our next international Greek star ? I know he is quite famous in parts of Europe...I will watch a see how the concert goes..Anyone else who observes the show can post feedback here..Thanks

Only One.... (Ton Eayto Tou Paidi) which has been a already known song since 1999 .. :D but ok he is an opera-musical voice and I think it is preferable listening to such songs (foreign) by his voice..

To which evening were you referring too?

I watched PBS last night and there was nothing on there indicating

to Frangoulis or of Greek Classical music in general?

Could it be on tonight as today is the 13th of November here in the USA? But last night as I read your post (and the date your message posted was read on the 13 hence European time) I can tell you it was not On

Christ, the concert did appear here in Atlanta and Mario was here in studio in between clips of the show...Let me just say that he has an amazing voice...WOW!!! This guy is world class and has a great future..When he was interviewed in between segments of the show,he was very articulate and spoke English completely with almost no accent. In fact he had a slight british or south African accent.....I wonder if the show was meant for the Atlanta market only and he is doing a tour of most states and appearing live while they show the clips......I will call his manager and get more info and post it here............The concert was beautiful from an outdoor theatre in Thesaloniki called "Theatre of the Earth"...Tha acoustics and show were wonderful..There was a guest appearance from the original member of the "Moody Blues",who sang the original version of nights in white satin.Marion sang it in italian(i believe) and then they both finished in English...Overall this exposure will give a huge boost to his acreer and will likely give him worldwide noteriety like Yanni or Nana Mousxouri........

Sarantiis,

do you think we are going to see the next

Pavorratti, Domingo, Carreras, or Bercelli

from Frangoulis?

I mean the guy sings real good opera as anyone of these great Tenors.

and hes very young (don't know how old though) as his voice is just as strong as the other tenors so who knows

how far his International Career will take him.

We will just have to sit back and listen while we wait and see

In the meantime, he should colloborate with Dalaras again any time in the future off the studio and on stage.

I think Parios and him might sound good together singing a couple of Theodorakis tunes. what do you think?

Sarantis,

He studied in England I believe thats why his English is good and he appreared in stage in London in shows. I also think we was born in Africa. This is from memory (which is not so good these days) so if I'm wrong sorry.

Nights in White Satin is one of my favorite songs from the Moody Blues, and it must have been Justin Haywood who was with, must have been good to hear them together.. He has a geat voice. The LP is absolutely great and if anyone likes this kind of music a really good listen. The words are superb and I think this was way before its time. I think it was released about 69 or 70, I have to check at home.

Marios has a great voice and I think he will have an incredible future ahead of him.

Lynn, Christo

I think Mario is an amazing talent and his voice is incredible..For those who like this type of music he will be there next Pavorratti, Domingo, Carreras, or Bercelli ...I spoke with his manager(also Dalaras' USA manager) this morning and he told me that Mario is doing a 65 city USA tour and promoting his new CD and concert from Thesaloniki...Just like "Yanni" ,it will be broadcast on the local PBS station with a live appearance in the tv studio by Mario...The Atlanta show was two days ago and i watched it... His manager will send me a complete list of dates so i can post here for all of you who may be interested ..........

Here's a short story from Hurriyet:

11 years ago Mario was at a party in Pavarotti's house in New York.Late in the night Pavarotti asked him to sing an aria for his guests and Mario did so.After singing his song Mario was very anxious thinking that Pavarotti didn't like his singing. Then Pavarotti came towards him and said:

Why are you so anxious? If someone is to be afraid it's me.If they (showing his guests) understand that you'll be much better than me in future I really should be afraid..." :)

Btw the title of the article in Hurriyet was "NEW PAVAROTTI:FRANGOULIS "

Frangoulis is not a voice for the opera. He may be able to sing some arie, but unfortunately, he is not made for more achieved classical works. Amongst all the pieces I have downloaded recently, none has called my attention yet.

Nice little voice, that's all. Sarper, Pavarotti was being polite... :wow:

Btw, Pavarotti's voice is much better than Frangoulis', but he can't really sing whole operas either, and if he has done so, the results are not very convincing. Those singers are only made for "shows", not for the opera that Maria Callas and Visconti had tried to renew some time ago...

Where are you, Alfredo Kraus, John Vickers, Giuseppe di Stefano ? :wow::pity::pity:

:wow:

Francois,

now why do you say that

after all of us hearing Frangoulis for the very first time

singing opera and other Classical music with Dalaras from

their Live recording at IERA ODOS?

If his voice wasnt made for Opera, I dont' know whose is?

:wow:

Frangoulis does not have the kind of opera voice I like, I admit. But then, neither does Pavarotti. Matter of taste.

He _does_ have a voice, and he _can_ sing, in any case, so, no call to denigrate him the way you do, Francois. Ce ton meprisant ne dit pas de bien de celui qui s'en sert.

He does have a voice and he can sing, but his voice is not for the opera.

Ton meprisant, Geeske ?
