ΛΙΩΝΟΥΝ ΤΑ ΝΙΑΤΑ ΜΑΣ | | Our youth falls apart Μουσική: Μάνος Λοίζος | | Music: Manos Loizos Στίχοι: Φώντας Λάδης | | Lyrics: Fontas Ladis Όλη μέρα στα λιμάνια | | All day long, in the harbours και στα ναυπηγεία | | and the dockyards, στου θανάτου τα καζάνια | | in death's boiler-rooms στα μηχανουργεία | | in the engine-shops, λιώνουν τα νιάτα μας στη βιοπάλη | | our youth is falling apart in the struggle for life, με τα κομμάτια μας δένει τ' ατσάλι | | with the bits, the stainless steel is put together . Στο πετσί μας η μουντζούρα | | On our skin the grime που δε λέει να φύγει | | that does not seem to go away η ζωή βαριά σκοτούρα | | Our life a heavy load of trouble, κι η χαρά μας λίγη | | and our joy but little. Λιώνουν τα νιάτα μας στη βιοπάλη | | Our youth is falling apart in the struggle for life, με τα κομμάτια μας δένει τ' ατσάλι | | our youth is falling apart in the struggle for life, Όσο κι όσο τ' αγοράζουν | | All and wholly they buy it το φτωχό κορμί μας | | our poor body και περίσσια κέρδη βγάζουν | | and they draw abundant profit απ' τη δύναμή μας | | from our strength. Posted January 27, 2003 · Report post Thank you Geeske! Your excellent translation reminds me of a professor in high school, who used to tease us every morning, first hour at school, by saying: "Πώς είστε έτσι ρε; Σαν να είστε όλη μέρα στα λιμάνια και στα ναυπηγεία..." I think GD's most political (and poetical) record is "Ta 18 lianotragouda tis pikris patridas"... , but I like "Tα τραγούδια μας" a lot, of course.
