Posted October 19, 2001 · Report post Is there any member who knows Kostas Ferris s recent works and plans. He is also lyricist of "Stou Thoma To Magazi". There are some movies in your life that affact you deeply. One of them, for me is "Rebetiko"by Kostas Ferris. There is a scene that I never forget:Heroine in a miserable hotel in America and hears some melodies from the outside and ,realizes that a few black people play sax.She likes very much and, throws a dish towards them but, black people think, she didn t like the melody and was disturbed by the sound. Anyway! I will be pleased if I can get some info about Ferris.
Posted October 19, 2001 · Report post Hi Kenan, Κωστας Φερρης, Never heard of him but what you describe sounds as a good advertisement to go to see that movie. I found on him that there are 4 albums at which he is supposed to do something. As I said before I don't know him but this way that can change, sometimes drastically, like with several other greek musicians of which I had not heard of way back in the past. I attach here the info that I scanned.
Posted October 19, 2001 · Report post O3,thank you very much for your attachment. This movie was made nearly ten years ago.It is a very very touching movie,at least for me.It is about the rebets way of life originating from Anatolia and improvement of rebetiko. For the first time ,I heard "Mana mou Ellas","Ta Paidia Tis Aminas","Stou Thoma"etc in this movie. Posted October 19, 2001 · Report post That is why we are friends at Dalaras.com: to help each other. The way you describe this movie really touches me. And it has these songs in it. Problem that rests is how to get a video tape of it. Video tapes are in fact a very weak point at my side, I have NONE. Maybe I can start with this one doing something about it. Thanks you brought it up φιλε.
Posted October 19, 2001 · Report post Kenan, "Rebetiko" was made in 1983 (or 84).Since then Ferris directed only one film;"Oh Babylon" in 1988.But he's directed many serials and documentaries for TV's during the 90's.In 1991 he's written and directed "Rebetiko on stage" a musical play which I had the chance to watch . Posted October 22, 2001 · Report post Kenan,I've watched "Rebetiko" many times.I certainly remember that scene.A famous Turkish song with Turkish lyrics in a Greek film...It was an unforgettable scene for me as well. By the way the film was made in 1983 but came to Turkey a little bit!!!! late, in 1991.I mean you were right to say "nearly ten years ago". If you liked the soundtrack of the film, here is an other URL for you and O3 ; http://www.rebetikorow.com/aman.htm I think you will like it... Posted October 22, 2001 · Report post Kenan,Dostum, The album, you mention, should be "Sinavlia-Stavros Xarhakos,George Dalaras,Dimitra Galani".It's one of my favorites.Did you recognize the song;"Imitlerim" on it?It's an other Turkish song by Yesari Asim Arsoy. Btw,I would be grateful if you sent me those translations .Where did you find them? :sarcasm: S Gursu

Posted October 25, 2001 · Report post I found something on "Rempetiko" again. In a file that I got from a friend some time ago. It looks like it is the LP that went with the movie. The Music is by Ksarxakos Above I saw that you were looking for LP's. Well this certainly is a target. post-21300-Lyrics___Ksarxakos___Rempetiko.doc

Posted November 1, 2001 · Report post Thanks for your kind words. I have been digging into it a little further. It appears that the CD, that Sarper mentioned, has 13 tracks while the Double LP has 19 tracks. So there is still something to look around for. My friend in Spain has send me the cover of that CD which I here include. Good luck in finding the Double Album.
Posted November 1, 2001 · Report post O3; I have found the double album, you mentioned. Here is a list of the missing songs of the CD,with 13 songs: -Tsifteteli-Hitzaskar, -Fora, -Erinaki, -Hasapiko 36, -Stou Thoma(another version), -Mana Mou Ellas(also another version) S Gursu
Posted August 23, 2002 · Report post I have been watching this film for many years now: nice, very nice, sad, painful, beautiful everything (although I don't always get along very well with Xarchakos' music, but "Mana mou Ellas" is so nice"), rather good actors, fairly good panorama of Greek history. But why call it "Rebetiko"? As a "specialist" of rebetika songs, I didn't see a history or analysis of rebetika in this film, but rather the well-told story of a woman throughout a cultural background that is not clearly defined (although some indication are given of course). I'd give it another title such as "The Life and Death of Marika" or something like that...
