Posted December 24, 2001 · Report post There is no doubt that Dalaras is my favourite singer. However,I enjoy hearing other singers such as Dimitris Basis,Gerasimos Andreatos,Kostas Makedonas. I won't forget that New Years Eve when I saw them in television(ET 1)and they were singing together "Oi thalassinoi"of Zampetas,"Tis vroxis oi stales"of Tsitsanis and an other song which I don't remember which it was. Does anyone know when it will be broadcasted again?

Posted December 25, 2001 · Report post Another singer that I think is really good is Giannis Vardis. Especially his last album which included "το αγριολούλουδο" a song by Nikolopoulos sung before by Kazandzidis. Also I like Makedonas,Basis,Tsaligopoulou,Kotsiras and many more. Dalaras is in the top though!

Posted January 4, 2002 · Report post How little I know, when I read all this. What about Papakonstantino ? I like that. And Kalliopi Vetta ? Very special voice she has. As for foreigners (outside Greece I mean) Tina Turner, Roy Orbison, Queen ('We are the champions', 'Somebody to love' ), Sting, from my own country Johan Verminnen (who sings about Dalaras in one of his songs). Posted January 5, 2002 · Report post A little story for you... Yesterday, coming home from Schiphol airport (at the other end of the country, that is), I made a small detour via Amsterdam to go the Greek record shop. There I came across the record Γραμμές των Οριζόντων. I had seen it before but paid no attention because Dalaras sings only a few of the songs on it. This time I really looked at it. First I discovered that all the lyrics are by Καββαδιας, who is by now a favorite of mine. Surprise! Then, the singers: I know and like them all. BIG surprise! (me, having favorite Greek singerS (plural)? what is the world coming too?). For those who don't know the record yet, beside Dalaras, they are Χάρης και Πάνος Κατσιμίχας, and Βασίλης Παπαλωνσταντίνου, and one I hadn't heard singing before, Θάνος Μικρουτισκους, who can do little wrong with me, as he is the composer, and a damm good one imho. So I bought the record. The other people on the train that took me home surely thought it was a madwoman, sitting there three inches up in the air above the seat, with a grin on her face and headphones on

Posted January 6, 2002 · Report post we're talking next door neighbours here - and I'd never even _heard_ of this guy... Thank you Micki! Het Paaseiland is called Easter Island in English It's the speck on the map lost in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where they have those utterly mysterious gi-gan-tic statues of rather square-cut heads, in lava stone. The name is because the Dutch navigator who put it on our maps got there at Easter. opdat Charlebois met mij in Quιbec de bloemen eens stevig buitenzet so that [my hometown] Charlebois [comes with me] to Quebec to paint the town red "de blometjes buiten zetten" is litteraly "to put the flowers in the window", and it means "to go out on the loose and make a terrific night of it". I found the english equivalent in my dictionary and liked it... Somehow I have a notion that there must some really good greek expressions for this as well!! Anyone like to contribute some?? Please?? p.s. btw, the [...] are the translator's conventional way of indicating that these words are not present in the original, but needed in the translation to express/clarify the meaning. Quite useful.
Posted January 6, 2002 · Report post Thanks again, Geeske. Paaseiland, I didn't find the translation so I doubted wether I could translate it literary. Well, now I even know more than I knew before of this island (I didn't know it was a Dutch navigator who discovered it my turn to blush). And I like the expression 'to put the flowers in the window". That's what I cannot count the times anymore that I did that but also what I need to do very soon again, or I'll go simply mad, crazy, trelh, ... And Johan Verminnen is one of the few, very few, good artists in Belgium, that sing in their own language. For the English language performed by Belgians ... there is K's Choice (living in the US), dEUS. Micki
